Philosophy: The Lakeland
Senior High School Art Department believes that all humans possess creative
potential and deserve the opportunity for imaginative development. We
further believe that art offers a vehicle for self-expression and mental
expansion; it is unique because it exists without regard to academic
aptitude or economic advantage. Through a multicultural understanding of the
past and the present, the student learns tolerance and self-awareness;
through abstract problem-solving he learns sensitivity and perception; and
through art criticism he learns discrimination and appreciation. We believe
that these qualities not only enhance the students’ life, but also better
prepare him to face the challenges of a complex and rapidly changing world.
