Philosophy: The Social Studies Department of Lakeland Senior High School is committed to the task of providing students with the necessary social skills to participate in a democratic society. It is our responsibility to inspire each individual not only to embrace but also to strive continually to enhance our cultural ideals. The department must diligently maintain a flexible and adaptable curriculum to provide an environment conducive to learning. The department must instill in students a sense of history that will prepare them to make political, social, and economic decisions balanced with the technical skills necessary to function in the modern world. The department must not neglect its responsibility to promote ethical and moral standards that will encourage students to accept and be tolerant of the demands of a pluralistic society.
