FLDOE – Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate from any public school in the State of Florida, a student have a cumulative 2.0 GPA and pass the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.

The standard graduation requirements in the Polk County School System include the following courses:

A year of a course is equivalent to one credit.

  • 4 years of English
  • 4 years of Math (including Algebra 1. This credit may be earned in a two year sequence.)**
  • 3 years of Science (All science courses at LHS have a lab component.)
  • 1 year of World History
  • 1 year of American History
  • 1/2 year of American Government
  • 1/2 year of Economics
  • 1/2 year of Personal Fitness
  • 1/2 year of Physical Education
  • 1 year of Fine Art

**Four years of level 2 or above math courses are required. Level 1 math courses will only count as elective credit. Those courses include Intensive Math and Business Math.

8 Elective credits. Please note any course may be considered an elective if the minimum requirement of credits have been earned in a subject area. For example, if a student takes a 4th year of mathematics, that course is considered to be an elective.
